After Hagerstown, MD, in September 2021, the WCC returns to Europe to be hosted for the first time in Germany, in the city of Leipzig, on May 31-June 3, 2022. The event was initially planned for September 20-24, 2020, but had to be postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic
The conference, under the patronage of IWI, is organised by the city of Leipzig, in in cooperation with Leipziger Messe GmbH and Europäischer Metropolregion Mitteldeutschland e.V.
The theme of the conference, suggested by the Leipzig region’s remarkable transformation into a network of rivers, mill streams and countless lakes, many of them interconnected, is Reshaping landscapes – waterways in transition.
Details are published on the conference website.
Before the disruption caused by the COVID pandemic, the World Canals Conference had already been attributed to the City of Bydgoszcz, Poland, and will now take place in June 2024. Details will be posted here as soon as they are available.
Invitations to host the WCC from 2025 onwards are invited from interested parties.
There will be no full World Canals Conference in 2023, but possibilities are being examined for an alternative event to be held, partly streamed to be accessible to the widest audience.
