Ninety years after it was opened in the Eastern Moravia region of the Czech Republic, the Baťa Canal is being extended for recreational navigation. IWI’s upcoming magazine (issue No. 39) will give details of this ambitious project implemented by the Directorate of Waterways of the Czech Republic in partnership with the region and local authorities.
When the current works are complete, the waterway will extend from Kroměříž to Hodonín on the Morava River, and to Skalica in Slovakia. Great expectations are also connected with the upcoming project of the Veselí nad Moravou-Vnorovy cruising ring, created by building a short connecting canal between the existing canal and the Morava River in Veselí, through a unique boat lift. The boat lift is shown in the rendering by the Czech Waterway Authority. The map shows the layout of the cruising ring, with the boat lift adjacent to the extended boat harbour. The harbour will be one of the biggest in the Czech Republic.
