Congratulations to IWI Council member Di Murrell on winning the prestigious Sophie Coe Memorial Prize for Food History, at the Oxford Symposium for Food and Cookery, on July 7. Her essay entitled ‘Food on the Move’ describes some of the ways in which the working boatmen who used to carry freight on the waterways of England fed themselves and their families. WCC 2022 Leipzig
The World Canals Conference was held in Leipzig, Saxony, Germany, on May 30-June 3. It was attended by more than 330 delegates and exhibitors, and was acclaimed as a very well organised event, including meaningful site visits and a full social programme. Overall, it was a also an intense learning experience for delegates from across the world, who look forward to returning to the World Canals Conference in Bydgoszcz, Poland, in June 2024.
